The King of Fighters XIII Release Date

Looks like the King of Fighters XIII got pushed back from October 25, 2011 to November 22, 2011. Shame, because I was looking forward to it. The more I hear about the game, the more I want to play it.

I hope that the netcode works well. I hate playing fighting games online with bad netcode and terrible lag. Capcom’s done a wonderful job with their games but I’m not so sure about SNK.

Regardless, this is a first day purchase for me. Can’t wait until its release.

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 Premium VLX Review

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 Premium VLX

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 Premium VLX

This is probably the best joystick available on the market. It comes at with hefty pricetag, but it’s worth every penny. I’ve used nearly every joystick out there and none come close to the Premium VLX.

Every fighting gamer has an intuitive feel for when they’ve reached a plateau; no matter how much more you practice and watch videos and play that you won’t get any better. For the longest time I felt that way with my previous stick. I just couldn’t get to the next level. I could beat all my friends and win the majority of online matches, but I couldn’t win any tourneys.

All that changed once I got once I got this controller. I immediately noticed myself playing better. I don’t know if there was a placebo effect on me or not but I just felt like my combos were crisper, my reactions more responsive. I finally managed to win my local tournament after losing in the quarterfinals at the previous 2 tournaments and look forward to competing in many more.

For the money, there’s no better joystick out there. If you’re looking to take your game to the next level, this is the joystick to do it with.

Hit Box – the “Stickless” Stick

I am really intrigued by the new Hit Box controllers. Basically, it’s a joystick, without a joystick. In its place, are buttons used for directions.

The makers claim that:

By replacing the joystick with 4 directional buttons controlled by 4 fingers, you gain:
- Increased input speed (fastest dragon punch).
- Consistent inputs yield fewer mistakes.
- Exclusive control over your movement
- Sanwa buttons have little-to-no travel time.
- Instant high/low blocking.
- Button techniques apply to movement and special inputs (p-linking, piano roll, double tap).
- Game-specific features such as SSFIV input shortcuts (323 DPM) are at your disposal.
- Fewer match-pressure mistakes, such as lost horizon and accidental jumps from hard joystick motions.
- No arm/wrist motion.
- Stays put in your lap.

Very interesting indeed. Watching videos on their youtube channel, I think that Hit Boxes might be viable for fighting games, after you get used to them of course. The price tag ($159) isn’t so bad for a nice joystick, but it is hard to swallow when I have so many joysticks and gamepads that I am used to using.

Anybody out there used one of these bad boys before? I’m interested in seeing testimonials from real people and not the manufacturer. I might just bite the bullet and buy one just to test it out. I got to admit, they do look pretty cool and you would probably freak some people out just by bringing one of these to a tournament.

Dual Mod a Mad Catz Joystick Play on Playstation AND Xbox 360

Even though I own both an Xbox 360 and a Playstation 3, and have joysticks for both systems, I always thought it’d be a good idea to have a joystick that is compatible with both the 360 and the PS3. Everybody has a “favorite” controller and it’s a shame if it was just limited to one of the major consoles. I’m a hard core gamer so owning both the 360 and the PS3 (and the Wii and 3DS and PSP and etc.) is no big deal, but some of my friends aren’t so dedicated to gaming as I am.

There have been a few times where I have brought my favorite joystick to a tournament only to find out that they’re playing my favorite game on a system that’s incompatible with my joystick. Really annoying.

I’ve looked for a joystick that’s compatible with more than one system but they usually aren’t that good or prohibitively expensive. That’s why I’m really glad I came across this article by Donovan Myers.

I really like how his instructions are clear and how he has a lot of pictures. This also appears to require minimal soldering. It seems like something that even a luddite like me could accomplish. And not only would it be compatible with the Xbox 360 AND the PS3 after I’m done, but I could use it on the PC as well!

I’m going to attempt this on my Mad Catz in the near future. Wish me luck.

Tekken 6 Limited Edition Wireless Fight Stick Bundle on Sale!

Just saw this and wanted to give you guys a head up. Amazon has the Tekken 6 Limited Edition Wireless Fight Stick Bundle on sale for $34.99. It’s practically a steal at this price. Sure Tekken 6 is an older game, but a quality joystick and a game for under 40 bucks, sign me up! I’m probably going to pick up one just to have an extra for when friends come over.

I haven’t used the stick, but it seems to have some pretty great reviews. It’s a solid dependable stick and supposedly easy to upgrade. I’m normally wary of wireless controllers, but most people who have used it said that there was no noticable lag.

edit: Looks like it’s no longer on sale, but even at its regular price the Tekken Fight Stick Bundle is a steal.

Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition 2012 Change List

Shoryuken.com has posted a list of changes in the upcoming 2012 Edition. I’m really liking some of the changes I’m seeing, but it’s hard to imagine how some of the changes will balance the game out. I’ve become a more casual player, so some of the details are lost on me.

Yang and Yun seem to be receiving the most drastic changes. Some people think of these guys as the top tier and should be weakened, but I honestly don’t think that they needed to be.

Also, I like the fact that Hakan is going to be oiled up from the start. I found it annoying to have to grease him in the middle of a match.

Biggest changes are to Gouken. When I first read about Gouken before Street Fighter IV was released, I intended for him to be my main, but something about him didn’t feel right. Hopefully these changes will improve him.

I hope to see some more changes… and some new characters. Seriously Capcom, give us some details on that.

Full change list after the jump.

Watch the new Tekken 3D Prime Edition 3DS Trailer

Even though I’m a big fan of the Tekken franchise, I was a little wary when I first heard that Namco was making a version for the Nintendo 3DS. I mean, I realize that sometimes you want to take fighting games on the go, but the fact that I just can’t control a game well on handheld systems takes so much away from them.

Take Street Fighter IV for the 3DS for example. It looks amazing, and even the 3D effects are done well, but it feels gimped compared to the home console versions.

At any rate, I’m sure I’ll give Tekken 3D Prime Edition a try when it comes out. It’s also bundled with a movie: Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D. (I’m actually really excited about watching this on the Nintendo 3DS.)

Ryu vs. Ken Stop-Motion Video

Came across this AWESOME stop-motion video someone made using Ken and Ryu action figures. I’ve created stop-motion videos in the past, but never anything on this scale, so hats off to Counter 656 Production.

Check out their post for some great behind the scene info.

I’m also digging the action figures used. (I’m tempted to buy a couple myself and try to create my own video.) They seem pretty high quality. I’m not sure if they’re the NECA action figures. (They look different then the ones I own.) Anybody out there know what figures are used in this stop-motion video?

Super Street Fighter IV Version 2012 Announced

We all knew it was coming sooner or later, but Capcom is going to release a new version of Super Street Fighter IV next year. Despite the fact that Capcom has said previously that Super Street Fighter IV would be the final version, there will be a new version.

A release date hasn’t been announced, but most people think it’ll be early spring. Hopefully it’ll be a free update, or even DLC. However, Capcom is about as sequel happy as they come.

As for what is going to be in this update, it’s way too early to tell. I hope to see some gameplay balance and, of course, new characters. I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more Street Fighter III Third Strike peeps like Alex.
